Choosing the right dog collar could seem like a simple task, but you would be suprised on how many websites you will end up visiting looking for the ‘perfect one’ that not only will look great on your pet, but will also be comfortable for them to wear. Sometimes there are just too many collars to choose from and your unsure of which collar would be best…. So here is a quick guide to help you decide!
Get The Right Size
Before you start, the first thing you should is measure your pets neck using a soft tape measure. Keep a note of the size in both inches and centimetres. Getting the size right will ensure that the collar you buy will be the right fit for your pet and be not be too large or too small. Remember the ‘Two Finger Rule”, in that when secured on your pets neck, you should be able to fit two fingers underneath the collar. Any less than this and it is too tight!
Which Material Will Be Right?
The second step to decide is what material should the collar be made from. Popular materials tend to be leather, nylon and fabric, however there are plenty to choose from. Whichever you choose, make sure it is high quality and won’t easily break or fray after a few weeks of wear – spending a bit more money on a good quality collar will ensure it lasts much longer than a cheaper one!
Choose A Style – Plain, Pattern, Woven, Bling, Diamantes, Studs
The next step is to decide whether you want a more traditional dog collar, or want to show off some personality with a funky, trendy or blingy collar. You don’t need to be gharish and would always recommend you choose a collar that would suit your pet and their personality. Even a traditional pet collar can be purchased in a great selection of colours such as blue, black, pink, green, yellow and so forth.
Some collars will also feature diamante insets throughout the collar itself, or include an attached pendant. More high end collars will also include Swarovski crystals but these will attract a more premium price tag.
Once you have found the right collar, simply order it and allow your pet to enjoy their new gift!
